British Values

In addition to our school values of RespectFriendshipCreativityHonestyThankfulness and Hope, and in accordance with The Department for Education, we aim to actively promote British values in school, to ensure our pupils leave us prepared for life in modern Britain.

Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that whilst different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in Britain are subject to its law.

The Key Values are:

  • Democracy
  • Rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

The children learn about these values through our work in class (particularly our PSHE, RSE and RE curricula), our collective worship, our weekly 'Spotlight Value', 'Picture News', our pupil voice groups (School Council, Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and Eco Club) and through the way that everyone in our school community upholds and models these values in our day-to-day interactions with each other.

Each week we have a worship dedicated to 'Picture News', a resource which links current news topics with each of the British values.  Below are copies of the coverage documents for the current academic year, which show how each week's topic fits in with these values.

Proud to be a 'Picture News' Advocate School
