Phonics

Reception Children receive high quality phonics sessions daily.

Phonics is a method of teaching children to read and write. (See the link below)

We use aspects from Jolly Phonics and Letters and Sounds to support the children in their learning.

As children enter reception with a wide range of abilities phonics sessions are planned to meet the needs of our current children and learning opportunities are provided to the children to support and extend their learning.

'The teaching of phonics is highly effective in the Reception class. Children apply their knowledge with increasing accuracy in their reading and their writing. Staff provide opportunities for children to practise and refine their writing in their books or through mark-making activities in the outdoors.'
