Drawing Club
Drawing Club is a true adventure for Reception and KS1. It is based around the golden blend of picture books, tales and animations, it involves a short period of time together as a whole class followed by time with children exploring their ideas and creativity. Drawing club helps to immerse children in the world of story, it allows us to share a treasure trove of vocabulary with children to open up the playground of language to them. The best bit about drawing club is that it helps to develop children’s imagination and to show them that they are extraordinary.
P.E.
We now have employed a dedicated sports coach, Mrs Flatt, formerly known as( Miss Clason), who delivers our P.E. lessons. Beavers (R/1/2) have P.E on a Wednesday afternoon for 1 hour. They also have P.E on a Friday afternoon for 1 hour in the afternoon, but are split so both year 1/2 get a dedicated hour as well as reception. Beavers need to come in their PE kit to school both days and be wearing either black or white trainers or pumps. Please make sure to take earrings out or cover over them before they come to school and that hair is tied up.
Homework
Year 1 and 2 will get one piece of homework a week, alternating between Maths and English. Homework is handed out on a Friday and is due back in on a Thursday. Homework is also available on the website under the homework section. Reception will eventually have their reading books to engage with and will eventually get a phonics sheet in their reading diaries for you to be engaging with and helping them learn the new sounds.
Reading at home
Reading books are changed on a Monday and a Friday. Children get 2 books. 1 book is to help build their phonics knowledge and support what we are learning in class. We follow the ‘All Aboard’,DfE Validated Phonics programme. The other book is to help with reading fluency and expose children to lots of stories to help foster the love for reading, but also to help build-up their confidence with all the different sounds they have learnt so far. Children are more than welcome to take books home from our library to fulfill their passion for reading. We also have a Beavers library where children are invited to take books of their choosing to share with families at home.
Spellings
Year 1 and 2- Spelling lists for each week are in their homework folders and available on the website under the heading spellings. Spelling tests are on a Friday morning.
Reception will have tricky words in the front of their reading diaries to help learn as 'sight words'.
