Friday 30th April 2021

This week we have been very busy learning about the cities Phileas Fogg visited in Around the World in 80 Days. In RE, we created our own Hindu shrines for puja (have a look at the photos below). As part of our topic and RE work, we were very excited to video call Lakshmi, a doctor who works for a charity called Doctors Without Borders (Médecins San Frontières). She called us all the way from Delhi and talked to us about her travels, her work, and her experiences growing up in a Hindu family. We ended the week by planting a sunflower seed each to take home.... who will manage to grow the tallest sunflower....?

Friday 23rd April 2021

What a great first week back in school! We kicked off our new topic, Around the World in 80 Days, and started looking at the story by Jules Verne in our English lessons. In Science we learnt about the 7 life processes using MRS GREN to help us remember, and in Maths we spent the week working on equivalent fractions... check out some of our work in the photos below! To end the week, we celebrated St. George's day, with some of us wearing our Scouts, Beavers and Brownies uniforms. We also launched the Royal Mail's Design a Stamp competition. Another busy week for us in school this week! We got stuck in to some calculations work in Maths, started reading 'The Egyptian Cinderella' in English and learnt all about the importance of the River Nile for farming in ancient Egypt. We ended the week with a dress up day, raising money for Comic Relief by dressing as our heroes or superheroes. Everyone made a huge effort and we raised more than £80 as a school!

What a fantastic week! It was so lovely to see everyone back in school again. We had a brilliant week with lots of practical activities to help everyone settle back in. Highlights included our 'Dragon's Den' session when each group shared their inventions, creating Mother's Day cards for the special ladies who look after us and spending time creating masterpieces linked to our topic of Ancient Egypt. We also created these amazing collaborative artworks!

We're already at the end of week 4 of this term - a whole month of super work at home and in school. It's been so lovely to see you all during our class meets and sharing what we've been up to. This week saw Class 5 / 6 and ourselves battling it out in the Derbyshire Sundog competition.... well done to Class 5 / 6 for coming first out of the whole county and well done to the pupils who made the individuals leader board (including our very own MJ who was in the top 3!) There is another competition this week so let's see if we can beat 5 / 6 this time!

In other news, you sent in some amazing bird art to celebrate the Big Bird Watch. Check out the 'Let's get creative' page for your fabulous work.

We have continued to learn about Kenya, this week focusing on Kenyan landscapes, and again, your artistic skills have wowed! I've added a slideshow below - have a look at your amazing art work!

We had a brilliant last week of term this week. We've been busy making our Christmas cards and wreaths as well as calendars ready for 2021. We also enjoyed a panto afternoon on Tuesday and film and PJ morning yesterday. We have said goodbye to Sparkle and Dazzle, our naughty elves, for this year but I have a feeling they will be back!

I'd like to say a big thank you to you all for the cards and very kind gifts and wish you all a very happy Christmas. Here's to a happy new year and, hopefully, a return to a more 'normal' way of life in 2021.
