Class 1/2

Below you will find our new pages to support you with Home Learning.

I have added an extra link for any photos you would like to send in to show the wonderful activities you are doing at home.  Please email the photos via homelearning@rosliston.derbyshire.sch.uk for the attention of Mrs Hall.  This could be a lovely way for the children to keep in touch with their friends during this extraordinary time.

The learning activities are a mixture of web based challenges, worksheets, discussion ideas, role plays and art and craft ideas.   The ideas have been planned to ensure that they can be completed through talking to your child, accessing online challenges, written on paper or printed out.  Please feel free to adapt the activities for whatever works best for you and your child.

On the 'Weekly Overviews' page, you will find all of the weekly plans which outline the activities suggested for the week, including maths, English and Wider Curriculum lessons. I will leave previous weeks' overviews on the page too so you can access or revisit them at any time.

On the 'Subject Resources' page, you will find some resources to go alongside the daily activities. Not all activities have resources uploaded to go alongside them.

On the 'Free Websites and Resources' page, you will find supplementary websites, links and resources to support with extra activities (which are also available on the general 'Class Pages' page for all pupils across the school).

If your child is working below age-related expectations, or is having difficulty accessing any of the activities that have been posted for our class, then please feel free to make use of the resources shared for the other classes and the free resources and website for all ages.

Thank you.

Welcome to Class 1/2!

We love to learn and have fun!

Our teacher is Mrs Hall.

We have lots of help from Mrs Gaunt and Mrs Foster too.

We hope you enjoy looking at our class pages.

Carry on reading below to see what our class has been up to.

We have had such an exciting morning, meeting some of the lovely creatures brought in by Zoolab.  We met Colleen the cockroach, Tallulah the tarantula, Severus the corn snake and Spike the bearded dragon.  Well done to all of Year 1/2 and Reception for treating the visitors with such care and for asking such interesting questions.  Thank you Zoolab!

9.3.20 - Sport Relief Challenge for Reception and Key Stage One

Well done to all of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who took part in our Sport Relief Sponsored Challenge.  All of the children did star jumps for 2 minutes, jumped over a line for 2 minutes, balanced on each leg for two minutes and then ran a 10 minute relay race in teams.  What an achievement!

3.3.20

We have had a wonderfully messy afternoon making Welsh cakes ready for our class showcase tomorrow afternoon.  We all worked together to bake the cakes and we can't wait to try them with all of our grown ups.  A big thank you to Mrs Gaunt for all her hard work and help!

26.2.20

Ava and Coco from Year 5 came to read to us today in Infant library.  We enjoyed both of their book choices so much.  The girls read beautifully.  Ava's little sister Carmen was delighted and very proud of her big sister!  Thank you Ava and Coco!

12.2.20

We had a lovely surprise this afternoon when Mrs Hooley, our new Chair of Governors, came to read to us in Infant Library.  We really enjoyed reading 'The Wonky Donkey' with her and Mrs Hooley told us we were the best audience she had ever read to!  We were really pleased to spend some time with her and we are looking forward to seeing her again soon.

Thank you Mrs Hooley!

11.2.20

We have had a really interesting afternoon talking about staying safe when we use tablets, phones or computers.  We watched a powerpoint all about Buddy the dog and how he helped his family to remember how to stay safe online.  Buddy even came up with a song to help us all to remember what to do.  Sing Buddy's song at home to show your grown ups!

5.2.20

What a lovely afternoon we have had with our three surprise readers for Infant Library.  We all sat beautifully while Alaina, Elsie and Uma shared two of their favourite books with us.  We loved hearing them read so well.  Thank you!

29.1.20

Two of our friends from Year 3 came to read to us today.  It's not that long ago since they were sitting in the audience listening to other surprise readers at Infant Library.  Now they are the stars! Thank you Charlotte and Ava, you were brilliant.

Happy New Year!

Meet Apollo, our new class friend.

Last year, for a class Christmas present, we sponsored a lovely young elephant called Ambo who is now thriving in the wilds of Kenya.  This year, we have sponsored a beautiful black rhino called Apollo.  He is a very young and incredibly rare creature who is being looked after by the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.  The wonderful work they do helps to keep animals like Apollo alive and now we are part of his journey too.  As a class, we will follow Apollo’s progress and hear all about his adventures as he grows up.  If you would like to find out more about Apollo and how he was rescued, visit https://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/apollo
